Last Saturday, August 3, was my blog's fourth birthday. When I joined the blogging world back in 2009 I didn't know what I was getting myself into. I didn't really know much about blogs, but several people told me they thought I should start one. I wasn't quite sure what I'd write about and I didn't know if anyone would actually read my posts, beyond a few family members and friends, but I thought it I'd give it a shot. I guess I really underestimated myself because my blog's really taken off in ways I never would've expected.
Regarding what I would write about, I really cover the gamut. When I started blogging I knew that I would cover my accident story and the activities that I did with my family and friends, but I didn't really know what I'd write about beyond that. I've expanded my subject matter to also include current events/world news, my thoughts and feelings about different things, book and movie reviews and answering a lot of FAQs about what it's like to be paralyzed and how it affects every aspect of my life (in ways that people probably wouldn't expect). I think the most important thing I write about is that God exists and that He is mindful of our needs and intimately involved in every aspect of our lives, whether we realize it or not.
I never in a million years expected so many people to read my blog, but I've got to admit that I LOVE it! I'm just in awe that so many people around the country, and even around the world read my posts and keep coming back for more. I get a fair amount of what I refer to as "fan mail." I guess that's actually what it IS, but I don't want anyone to think it's gone to my head, because it most definitely hasn't. It's gratifying in such a humbling way, if that makes sense. Words of affirmation mean SO MUCH to me, so I always send a prompt response to the people that write me, thanking them for taking the time to let me know what my blog means to them, as well as answering any questions they might have. The best thing is finding out that my writings have helped give strength to someone who has or is struggling.
If you want to give me a present for my blog birthday, leave me a comment or send me an email! And if you ever have any questions for me or ideas for future posts, feel free to ask or send me an email letting me know. Here's to another year!
