My PB Love Affair

I love peanut butter… love, love, love it! My mom doesn't cook an official dinner most nights since it's usually just the two of us. That's just fine with me because I usually eat something light, and often something involving peanut butter. Like a piece of toast with peanut butter on it, or Ritz crackers with peanut butter on them. I could seriously eat half of a sleeve of Ritz crackers with peanut butter on them, but I limit myself to six. This might not sound like a very appealing dinner for an adult, but my peanut butter dinners are something I always look forward to.

Most peanut butter is created equal, but Peter Pan's crunchy Honey Roast is my all-time favorite brand/blend of peanut butter. It's slightly sweeter than most peanut butter, and it just has the best taste. The only bad thing about it is that it's difficult to find at the store. My mom is always on the lookout for it when she goes grocery shopping, but she rarely finds it. My mom knows how much I like it, so she keeps it hidden for me and has another jar of peanut butter open for anyone else that might want some. (Thanks, Mom!)

I also love peanut butter and chocolate candy. Right now one of my favorites is Reese's peanut butter cups made with dark chocolate. Regular Reese's are pretty hard to beat, but I prefer dark chocolate, so I think these are even better!

"The Avengers"

This afternoon my sister Chandra and I went to the movies to see The Avengers. I've been  excitedly waiting to see this movie ever since it came out two weeks ago. I've heard very good things about this movie, so I went with high expectations. I LOVE comic book movies, so I was in hog heaven with Iron Man, Thor, Capt. America, the Hulk, etc. I was not disappointed, and my high expectations were met in every way. I especially loved the scenes with Robert Downey, Jr.; he is so hilarious!

I can't wait to see the movie again; it's definitely one that I will be buying for my DVD collection. Heather's rating: 9.5/10 stars

War, Terrible War

I feel like there's so much that's taken place in the history that I don't know very much about. I should know more and be better informed, but I've long forgotten many of the things I learned in school. For that reason I like to re-educate myself by reading historical books, watching documentaries and other historically-based movies or reading things online. One of the movies I recently watched was Gettysburg; the 1993 movie depicting the gruesome three-day battle that was fought July 1–3, 1863. The movie was more than four hours and was very historically accurate, so I learned a lot. It was really well-done and it made me quite sad as I pictured these regular men fighting each other (and in some cases friends fighting their friends) all out of a sense of duty.

War seems like such a senseless thing. I know on one hand war can be necessary when you need to fight for what is right, or to defend your freedom but there are always so many casualties of war that make you wonder if all the sacrifice and suffering is worth it.

Anyway, I loved learning more about the actual timeline of events and how the battle really went down." I also liked learning a little bit more about the real men that fought in the war. There were so many, more than I want to list, but the most notable are Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, leader of the Union Army and Gen. Robert E. Lee, leader of the Confederate Army. The thing that struck me was how good all of these men were. They all had so much courage and integrity.

This was the final thought that was written on the screen at the end of the movie: "Thus ended the clash at Gettysburg, the biggest and bloodiest battle ever fought on American soil. Combined losses from both armies exceeded 53,000. The decisive battle sought by Lee had ended in failure, but the spirit of the Southern Army was far from broken, and the war would rage on for two more devastating years." I guess I never realized #1) just how many men died in the battle, and #2) that the Civil War went on for two more long years.
The movie made me quite sad and my sister Chandra asked me why I would subject myself to such a long, boring movie (boring was her assertion, not mine) that left me feeling sad at the end. It may sound silly, but my reasoning is that I feel a moral obligation as an American and a human being to honor the legacy and sacrifice that these men gave so much for. I feel like watching a four hour movie and doing a little research is the least I can do, especially since it seems like the longer time goes on, the more people are forgetting what has transpired in history.

Mother's Day

Yesterday was such a lovely day! Even though I'm not a mother, I love Mother's Day because it's a day to honor mothers and women in general. My mom spoke in church and gave a really good talk. The weather was absolutely beautiful, so I sat outside for a while after church and took the opportunity to take a few pictures. My mom is wearing a new shirt that I bought her for Mother's Day; she looked great in it!
Here are the tulips and irises that my sister Sharon sent our mom. They were absolutely beautiful, but they didn't last very long enough. I love, love, love flowers but I seriously feel sad when they die!
With that in mind, that's why my sister Kristin's Mother's Day gift to our mom was so perfect: paper roses that stay beautiful and never die! Kristin is a jack of all trades and is so talented. She recently learned how to make paper roses (from this website) and has made at least 80 of them in the past few weeks. She made a beautiful wreath for our mom which mom decided to hang in our downstairs bathroom.  Also pictured is the Mother's Day card Kristin made for mom, and a paper rose wreath Kristin made for her front door.

Kristin also sent me some a few roses which I have in my room. I told Kristin that they are like paper endorphins because it seriously makes me happy to look at them! :)

Correction!

In this post I wrote about the Polish dentist who got her revenge on her cheating ex-boyfriend by pulling out all of his teeth when he came in to get some dental work done. Sounds pretty heinous and over the top, right? Well, and I guess so because it turns out that the whole thing was just a hoax and never really happened. I guess it's a good thing that there really isn't a toothless cheating ex-boyfriend out there (at least, not one that became toothless at the hands of his dentist girlfriend).
