Family fun

My sister Sharon and her family were in town a few days this past week on their way to and from a family reunion for the Leigh side of family. It was wonderful to see them, as always, even if it was only for a few days.

My sister Laura and her baby Amy came down and spent lots of quality time with Sharon and her family. Here's a few pictures of Sharon's baby, Matthew, and Laura's baby, Amy. (They are about four months apart.) It's fun to watch them play together. Matt loves to grab Amy's little pigtails!

The grass was getting a little long, so my three oldest nieces helped my mom mow the front yard with the push mower. You really need muscle to push the mower, so it was easier said than done. 

I managed to get some individual shots, too. The first picture is of my sister Sharon and me, the next four pictures are of my nieces and me. First Elizabeth, then Kate, then Sarah and finally Rachel. Rachel wasn't in the mood to pose with me, but Sharon managed to get this candid shot of Rachel sweetly smiling up at me.

Matt wasn't in the mood for posing with me, either, but he and Rachel were both all smiles.

New do, part 2

Yesterday I wrote about my new haircut and I posted a picture of the finished product. I didn't like the way I looked in the pictures at all, so I said I'd try to get a better picture today. Although I still think my hair is a few inches shorter than I really wanted, I did get a better picture of myself today.

New do

My hairdresser Vera came over this morning to cut my hair. I decided to be daring and do something different this time. Changing your hair is always scary when you make a big change, but I think I like how it turned out. It's a little shorter than I was wanting it to be, but fortunately my hair grows quickly, so it should be closer to the length I want it in a month or two. 


I remembered to take pictures to document the transformation. Posting them on my blog is also a daring move since I was looking rough with no makeup on and all. Take a look at your own risk!

My hair has gotten really curly over the years (see above). Here's a picture of Vera holding up some of my hair that she cut off… 5½ inches. Check out the curls on the floor (below).

I'm so thankful for Vera. She's the best! I tried to get a picture of the finished product, but none of the pictures really showed what my hair really looks like. I'll try to get a better picture tomorrow!

The best one yet

This past Saturday my sister Chandra and I went to the movies and saw Transformers Dark of the Moon. It was the third installment in the Transformers series, and it was my favorite of the three movies. I'm pleased that this movie was so good since sequels often fall short in comparison to the first movie. It was quite long (about 2 hours and 40 minutes) but it was action-packed and kept my attention the entire time. I was getting pretty sleepy towards the end, but I managed to stay awake the entire time. Of course this is all just my humble opinion, but I don't think this movie will disappoint.

I took a temporary hiatus from my healthy eating and indulged in one of my favorite snacks – a soft pretzel. Boy do I love soft pretzels! I love to have something sweet with my salty, so I opted for the new Reese's peanut butter miniatures. They are tiny little bite-sized cups that are so good!

Not guilty doesn't = innocent

Earlier this week a verdict was reached in the Casey Anthony trial. Casey Anthony was on trial for the murder of her two-year-old daughter Kaylee Anthony. I think just about everyone has heard of this trial, even if they haven't followed it that closely. I was glad to you hear that a verdict had been reached, and I was excited (excited doesn't seem like the appropriate word, but I can't think of a better word) to hear the verdict. I was sure she would be found guilty, because I think she IS guilty. 

However, the verdict was not guilty. I was stunned! However, after my initial surprise wore off a little bit, I could definitely see why she got off. There just wasn't sufficient evidence to convict her, so that left room for enough reasonable doubt for Casey Anthony to be found not guilty. It's important to remember that just because she was found not guilty, it doesn't mean that she was found innocent. There's a big difference between the two.

At the sentencing trial yesterday Casey was sentenced to one year in prison and a $1000 fine for each of the four counts that she was found guilty on. (The counts that she was found guilty on were lying to police.) So, that means four years in jail and a $4000 fine. However, she's already been in jail for three years, and when you take into account time off for good behavior, Casey will be released from prison in just a few days. What a shame, because I truly think she's guilty.

As horrible as it is to watch someone go free that you really feel is guilty of the crime (remember OJ?!), it's comforting to know that although they might go free in this life, there will come a time when God will hold them accountable for what they've done. If it were me and I'd done something horrible like this, I'd live in fear of the day that I would come face-to-face with God. In the end, everyone in this boat will get what's coming to them!
